Mark Fennell - Portrait Artist

Mark Fennell is a very talented artist based in Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire,  who specialises in portraiture and figurative work. His medium is predominantly oil paint on canvas. His work is searching, insightful and skillful  in execution. His style though contemporary, evokes for me the precision and detail of the old masters.

Mark and I went to [...]

CASS Sculpture Estate, Goodwood

This week, I spent some time with my  good friend Rona, doing something we both enjoy, being out in the country taking pictures. Those of you who enjoy photography will know, this really is a pastime you spend on your own, or with a like minded crony.  We went to the CASS Sculpture Estate at [...]

New Work + Ralph

Just a fly by post to show off the following.

Three little finished canvases, freshly varnished (the tin foil was a tip from Jessica Doyle, and they don’t stick). These little paintings are to go on show at the Affordable Art Fair at the Joy Gallery in April with some other pieces, I am dropping them [...]

Check out the new Spring issue of UK Handmade. Some great articles, including one from our own Katy Cowan of  Creative Boom on the most effective ways to promoting yourself online.

As well as all the great articles on making, creating and doing, read my interview with Brighton artist Linda Boucher.

Pallant House Gallery - Modern Art in the South

Pallant House Gallery – Modern Art in the South.

Just a small example of the paintings on show at the Pallant House Gallery,  which my friend Rona and I visited on Wednesday. We had originally intended to visit the CASS Sculpture Estate at Goodwood, but both the BBC weather site and the Met office [...]

Illusio on DaWanda

All products from Illusio – DaWanda.

So, having had shops on Etsy, Folksy and Misi, I have decided to try out DaWanda, a European selling venue. I have had my DaWanda account for two years, but had not listed anything. Interestingly it would seem my decision to try it out has coincided with that of some [...]

A Collective of Creative People-Ants – These Ants

I joined this rather interesting site today, called ‘These Ants‘, which was originally flagged up by Katy Cowan at Creative Boom (a very exciting new venture, for artists, more on that soon).

These Ants is a creative collective founded by the talented Grace Han. Take some time [...]

New Work: Jacobean Tapestry Inspired

Just finished a small painting as shown here. Very simple, just black acrylic paint on unpainted linen deep edged canvas, size 8×8.

The design was formed free hand, in that I didn’t draw out the image first using pencil or source the design from preliminary sketches.  I just started painting and let the image form itself. [...]

The Postman brings Art

This was a week of bounty.  Lovely things were bought to my door by the grizzled and rather humourless postman all  in one day,  a couple of items of which I had forgotten about. Needless to say it cheered up a grey and drizzly day.

First up was Angela Hogans wonderful painting that I coveted for [...]
